Oat and Carrot Milanese
One of the classic Mexican dishes, now in a vegan version with oatmeal. You will love these milanesas with carrots and oatmeal. I show you how to prepare them fried and in the hot air fryer. Perfect for kids and adults.
Servings: 4 medium milanesas
Ingredients
- ½ cup oat flakes
- ½ cup hot water
- ½ cup grated carrot
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons oat bran
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
- French fries to accompany
- Salad with tomato to accompany
- BBQ sauce or ketchup to go with it
Instructions
- Let the oatmeal stand with the hot water for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, peel and grate a carrot.
- Add the grated carrot, garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.
- Blend a little with an immersion blender. If you don't have one, you can do it in a traditional blender, just for a few seconds, since we need the oatmeal to have texture in order to form them.
- Finally, add the oat bran and incorporate. If you feel it is too soft, add 1 extra tablespoon of bran.
- Heat oil in a frying pan and form the milanesas in the pan so that you can brown them on both sides, about 3 to 4 minutes per side.
- I recommend making them small so that they do not break when flipped.
- If you want to make them in the air fryer, place the milanesas on a greased baking sheet. Cook at 390ºF or 198ºC for 5 minutes, turn and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Total time depends on your hot air fryer and the size of the milanesas.
- Serve the milanesas with potatoes and salad or your favorite side dishes.
