Household Uses for Oats

We love experimenting in the kitchen and making new creations like our Olive Oil Granola. Cleaning the kitchen up afterward? Definitely not highlight of our day.

In our search for effective, all-natural cleaning products, we turned to our favorite grain – oats.  Oats are the perfect companion to your cleaning routine to help freshen up your home! We mean it, oats can literally freshen up your home.

Many people keep baking soda in their fridge to absorb odors – did you know you can do the same thing using oats? Oats are very absorbent and can even absorb unpleasant odors. Keep an open container of oats in your fridge and smell the difference! You can also leave oats out like an air freshener in any room of your house that could use a little freshening up.

The absorbency of oats can also be extremely handy when it comes to household oil spills. Did the olive oil make a bid for freedom all over the kitchen floor while you were cooking dinner? Or maybe the auto-lover in the family made an oily mess while doing car maintenance. In either scenario, oats can make the cleanup easier!

Generously sprinkle dry rolled or quick oats over the spilled oil and let it sit for about 10 minutes. The oats will immediately begin absorbing oil, and after 10 minutes, you can wipe the oats away and the surface will be significantly less oily.

Now that you’ve got the house looking and smelling great, the last thing you need is a messy pet coming and running amok! When the kids bring the dog home from a run through every mud puddle on the block, bring the oats out again!

Just like oats are great for human Skin and Hair, you can make a great oatmeal shampoo for your dog! Not only will this leave your pup- and therefore your home- super clean, it will also help relieve them of itchy and irritated skin, just like it does for people.

Make your household chores as painless as possible by using all-natural oats in creative ways around the house.
