Oatmeal Churros
A healthier recipe for churros. The dough is made with oat flour and instead of frying them in oil as is the tradition, they are cooked in a hot air fryer or air fryer until they are crispy and golden brown on the outside. A delicious recipe to enjoy at any time of the day!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup oat flour
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- ½ teaspoon monk fruit
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons mascabado sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Oil spray to taste
Instructions
- If you don't have oat flour, place 1 cup of oat flakes in a blender and blend until it looks like flour.
- Add the water and coconut oil to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- When it is boiling, turn off the heat and add the oat flour.
- Mix well to incorporate.
- Add monk fruit or your favorite sweetener to taste.
- Turn the skillet back on and cook for another 45 seconds or until the dough pulls away from the pan and looks firm.
- Let cool slightly and transfer to the mixer bowl.
- Turn on low speed to cool the dough a little, add the egg and mix well. You can add the egg little by little, as the amount you add depends on the size of the egg.
- When it looks soft and smooth stop beating, it is a short time.
- Place in a piping bag with the star dough stick to shape the churro.
- Place baking paper on the tray of the air fryer, grease lightly and press firmly to assemble the churros.
- I recommend making them small so that they cook better since we will be making them in the air fryer.
- The dough is very firm, this is normal. Leave space between each churro so that air can circulate and brown the outside of the churros. If you stick them too much, there is a risk that they will not be crispy.
- Coat the churros lightly with cooking spray.
- Cook in the air fryer at 200ºC or 390ºF for 5 minutes.
- Carefully flip and lightly coat with more cooking spray. Cook another 4 to 6 minutes more, the time depends on the power of your hot air fryer and how browned and crispy you want them on the outside.
- Immediately cover the hot churros with the cinnamon and powdered sugar mixture.
- Serve with chocolate hazelnut spread or your favorite dip.
